About CoCraft

Who we are

CoCraft is a small group of experienced makers who practice creative and sustainable design while sharing our extensive professional knowledge through classes and workshops.

We make every effort possible to source sustainable Australian timber and materials.

Founded in 2018 by Brett Coelho, Designer and Maker.

Workshop

Our 700sqm workshop has plenty of space to make larger projects and our woodworking machines are state of the art.

We also have a dedicated ceramics studio with pottery wheels, glazing station and kiln firing.

Our School of Making is a purpose built space with storage facilities for student work.

Safety

Safety is our priority. All machines are well maintained and regularly serviced with dust extraction fitted. Proper eye and ear protection must always be worn when required.

All tutors are trained to induct students into safe working procedures before any work is carried out.

Classes

Every class has a maximum of only 8 students with one tutor and one assistant. This means each student gets the individual care and attention they require.

Our tutors are leading industry professionals who are experienced in all aspects of modern furniture making. They teach because they enjoy sharing their knowledge with others and have a passion for their craft.

Inclusive

We welcome people from all walks of life to come and learn with us. Please let us know beforehand if you require any special arrangements, we are happy have a chat.

  • Coco

    SHOP DAWG

Coco is our resident Shop Dawg and Brett’s right hand.

You will often see her welcoming people to the workshop, sniffing timbers, double checking students’ work and looking for snacks.

We think she knows each corner of the workshop best, including the best napping spots so if you’re unsure of where to find something, please ask Coco.

  • Billy

    FURNITURE DESIGNER

Billy is a qualified carpenter but he prefers making bespoke furniture these days. He is a resident in-house maker at CoCraft where he runs Billy Furniture. He’s great at making rattan doors, fond of bold color, dislikes mitre joins, owns a vintage Harley Davidson and has a dog called Dave. If you want a custom piece of solid timber furniture made with skill, care and creativity then Billy is your guy.

  • Franky

    CERAMICS STUDIO TECHNICIAN

Franky has a Masters in Fine Arts from RMIT University and currently teaches multiple wheel throwing classes at CoCraft. She is also the studio technician, in charge of firing the kilns, glazing and ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with students while supporting them to develop their own connection to clay in a relaxed and inclusive environment.

  • Lisa Bahn

    CERAMICS INSTRUCTOR

Lisa is a ceramic artist whose practice is focused on everyday functional stoneware, finished in whimsical ways.

She enjoys the traditional concepts of good form and function, and intersects these with playful elements. Her work is both thrown on the wheel and built by hand, and she works from a tiny pink studio in Coburg.

Her pieces have been made to reflect the little pockets of unapologetic joy that accompany our daily rituals. Each piece is handmade with care, and she enjoys seeing these objects find and connect with their new owners.
